Just took a "workshop" given by a well-known casting director that was organized by a production company. They traveled to our state and we paid from $200 - $250 each. It was called a 5-hour "acting intensive." The selling point for me and for some of my fellow actors was -- and it was a separate line in large print so you couldn't miss it -- BUT MOST IMPORTANT, EACH PARTICIPANT WILL RECEIVE AN INDIVIDUAL EVALUATION FROM (insert CD's name here) HERSELF. Well that line, along with four major points that would be discussed, is what clinched the expensive deal for most of us.

Rather than an acting intensive, we spent the 1st hour listening to the CD tell stories of her experiences. Then we performed our prepared scenes. Some did get a few suggestions from the CD, and some did get to repeat their scenes (I'd say there were around 28-30 people). But many hardly got two words from the CD. Myself and a few others got not ONE word. I almost wanted to say, excuse me, any feedback?, but I thought she may think I was rude. I'm thinking of asking for a refund because I don't feel people are entitled to my money when they don't give me what they said they would.

At least my eyes are open for the next so-called CD workshop.

Though I'm like 3 years late reading this post (judging by it's blog post date) it was the precise thing I needed to read right now. As always, a great read and uber-helpful, Ben!

Comment on IMDb Part 2: Getting Your Project Listed by benwhitehair

Elizabeth,

Those, as far as I know, are all titles given to projects that haven't actually filmed yet or been solidified. Or, for example, if a certain actor is "rumored" to be playing the part but hasn't been confirmed yet, you would see "rumored."

"Pitch" means the project is/has been pitched to various networks or others who might actually make the movie, though it's not in production yet.

As for "optioned property" that means someone has an "option" on the script, giving them the right to make it if they so choose.

All of this is a great reminder that IMDb is first and foremost a fan site, and they focus on keeping the fans as up-to-date as possible, even on things that haven't quite happened yet. :)
